Shadows; part 5.

“Why, what did I say?”
“You said the voice, from last night, sounded like it knew where it could hide, knew the forest.”
“Well, that’s clearly my mysterious cleverness that comes out when it pleases, not when I want it to--”
“Come on,” Tear interrupted, “We’re going out.”
“WHAT! You know exactly what we were told, unless asked for, don’t leave the house during the day, full stop. Well, I suppose it doesn’t really affect you anymore but it affects me. Seriously, you’re meant to be the sensible, clever one and I’m the stupid, rash one. And you of all people should know about light, I mean, you’re you, for goodness sake’s. And plus, I don’t want to go anywhere.”
“Look, we’re in the middle of nowhere, no one, other than the people we know or invite, comes here... ever.”
“But clearly someone else is here as well, so it’s risky to go outside other than when it’s dark.”
“Exactly, there is someone around here that knows we’re here. Now either they live in the forest or on the other side of the forest. They are likely to come out in the day, so is it better that we go and surprise them in the day, or they come and get us when we’re unaware and they’re fully prepared? If we find whoever it was first, then we have the high ground, we ask the questions, okay. So you can either grab your gear or come with me, or you can stay here on your own.”
“Fine, though you don’t exactly leave me with many options. I can’t let you go alone, and plus we both know I’m the stronger one of both of us.”
“Do you want to start this again, anyway, it’ll pass the time until the post arrives, hopefully you might hear from them today.”

Shadows: part 4

The eyelid of the sky opened and the morning light revealed the sheer nothingness that was surrounding the house. There was no colour, just brown. A dark muddy brown. An endless field with no barriers stretched further than the eye could see. As the light hit the huge black bubble it unravelled like a rose opening in the morning. The house was just visible; as it was painted to match the mud-to hide the house from unwanted visitors. It lay no shadow as to not give away it’s positioning to prowling eyes.
Inside the large mysterious Victorian house, Opal slowly appeared from her room. Lightly knocking on the opposite door, she started speaking without reply but confident Tear was up. The other door opened immediately, as if Tear had been waiting for Opal.
After Tear made breakfast, the two sat down to eat. Opal kept babbling mindlessly until she got to something Tear wanted to listen to. She carefully listened to Opal, before Opal moved on in her sleep clouded chatter.
As she practically force fed Opal her breakfast, Tear thought over Opal’s words. Opal had said that the voice sounded confident, like it was on its own territory, not theirs.
Slowly Opal gained control of herself and turned to Tear, “Sorry, morning nonsense, fine now though.”
After a few seconds Tear replied, “Opal you’re right, for once in your life you’ve said something that actually helps!”

Shadows: part 3

As they arrived at the building, one unlocked the door, opened it and stated “After you”. The other very politely thanked her and entered the house, followed by the first. Once the door had been locked again, one picked up the mail, handing half to the other and starting to walk down the hallway. As it did every night when they returned, the bubble of darkness surrounded the house, hiding it from the outside. Suddenly all of the lights came on, illuminating the house. When they arrived at the lounge, they both dropped their mail and began de-gearing. All of their weapons and armour were dropped onto two trays, one each, both encrypted. Fully de-geared, they turned and headed for two doors. Each door was engraved – one said Opal and the other Tear. The girl with dark short hair opened the door engraved Opal, and the girl with the dazzling red hair opened the door entitled Tear. They looked at each other, curtsied slightly, said goodnight as if it had been a normal day and entered the doors into their own solitudes.

Shadows; part 2

As the wind blew through the graveyard of trees, the tiniest voice could be heard over the clanging of swords. The stubborn pair were being watched. But by who? The girls both simultaneously stopped and were immediately back to back. Slowly they started to turn, swords at the ready, observing all of their surroundings. Minute orbs of light started to dart from the main glowing sphere, and once the small light balls had made a large circle around them the main light was absorbed by darkness. Still seeing nobody, the girls faced each other. They gave each other a slight nod and faster than light they began to run. The light circle travelled with them as they ran. The voice was getting louder and louder but they ignored it. They knew exactly where they were going.
Eventually the dead trees petered into nothing and they were surrounded by openness. The lights vanished, and only the emptiness of the night remained, but they could both see perfectly well. Slowly they started walking, straight ahead, leaving the hollow voice of mystery behind.
Three miles later, the girls were still walking in silence. The outline of a large house could be seen. The girls walked on. Calmly one turned to the other and said “I guess we’ll have to finish this tomorrow.”
“I guess we will.”
“Hopefully we won’t be so rudely interrupted again. By the way, who do you think it was?” she asked slightly accusingly.
“I don’t know, I thought it might have been to do with you”.

Story1: Shadows

Echoing around in the silence of the night was the quiet clashing of swords. In the distance of the deep darkness through the twisting and turning of the twigs the small glow of a light could be seen through the mist of the autumn night. Then a sudden movement dented the light, the light vanished and only darkness and sound remained.
The sound got louder and louder until it was a surrounding boom of noise. Metal against metal. Metal against wood. But it didn’t matter to either of the fighters, they just had to block it out and keep going. Neither of them could accept defeat. But neither could beat each other.
Slowly the light reappeared, revealing the two shadowy figures. The first person that became fully visible was a tall, slim girl in her early 20’s. She was wearing a tight black vest top- that seemed to absorb any light that got close to it- and black skirt combination, which went down to half way up her thigh. Over this was a small black belt positioned perfectly to hold her long, narrow samurai sword covered by a short, split end, strapped coat. She was wearing delicate black boots that came up to just below her knee. Her short black hair framed her face perfectly as she dodged her opposition’s sword. Her black eyes shone brighter than the moon as they caught the glow of the light.
Gradually the other figure was completely visible. It was another girl, again in her early 20’s and thin, but she was slightly shorter. This girl was wearing a tight slightly reflective black vest top-that seemed to repel or emit light more than anything else. She was wearing an identical skirt to the first girl, except it was made of the same material as her top. A mat dark grey belt hung loosely around her narrow hips. Her shinny black boots rose up to above her knees. She had the same strapped coat in dark grey. She was wearing dark silk gloves that extended towards her elbow but didn’t quite reach. Unlike her competitor, she wasn’t smiling, but she was showing her poker face and giving nothing away. Her black eyes stood out from her face, sharply glistening wildly alike the sun as they caught the glow from the burning light that was suspended above them. Her entire body moved silently but swiftly as she fought the only person she couldn’t beat. Her long mahogany red hair whispered into her ears as it was caught by the wind.
